Join Fred Meyer as a Grocery Clerk in Portland, Oregon. This position is part-time and entry level, supporting our department’s sales and profit goals while maintaining a safe, clean, and customer‑centric environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Help customers find items and answer questions about products.
  • Inform customers of food specials and recommend items to suit their needs.
  • Check product quality and review "sell by" dates, taking appropriate action.
  • Provide fresh and non‑perishable groceries to customers and label, stock, and inventory merchandise.
  • Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers, logging temperatures as required.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, make product suggestions, and broaden knowledge of all department goods.
  • Create a welcoming environment for customers, ensuring they feel appreciated and informed.
  • Reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repairs.
  • Report customer or employee accidents to management.
  • Work cooperatively in a fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational manner.
  • Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.
  • Provide support for minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Qualifications
  • Customer Service skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction).
  • Retail experience (desired).
