Join Fred Meyer as a Grocery Clerk in Portland, Oregon. This position is part-time and entry level, supporting our department’s sales and profit goals while maintaining a safe, clean, and customer‑centric environment.
Key Responsibilities- Help customers find items and answer questions about products.
- Inform customers of food specials and recommend items to suit their needs.
- Check product quality and review "sell by" dates, taking appropriate action.
- Provide fresh and non‑perishable groceries to customers and label, stock, and inventory merchandise.
- Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers, logging temperatures as required.
- Respond to customer inquiries, make product suggestions, and broaden knowledge of all department goods.
- Create a welcoming environment for customers, ensuring they feel appreciated and informed.
- Reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
- Conduct preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repairs.
- Report customer or employee accidents to management.
- Work cooperatively in a fast‑paced, sometimes stressful environment.
- Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve issues.
- Provide support for minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Customer Service skills.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, subtraction).
- Retail experience (desired).
