APPAREL/CASHIER – Fred Meyer
Join the Fred Meyer team as an Apparel/Cashier. Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service, maintain a safe and clean environment, and demonstrate core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
Responsibilities- Process customer transactions through the check lane quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
- Handle payments, make change, and process checks, credit and debit charges according to proper departmental procedures.
- Understand the Point of Sale system and handle various tenders, "rain checks", loyalty offers, coupons, and checkout procedures.
- Record the sale of items to the register by scanning or using a hand‑held scanning gun or the 10‑key pad.
- Adhere to the company's cash handling procedures, maintain honest control of loss, and handle restricted sale items such as alcohol and tobacco.
- Follow procedures to limit shrink, check for bottom of basket, scan all items, and close the loop procedures.
- Provide outstanding customer service, greeting, engaging and assisting customers, answering product questions, and making suggestions.
- Keep checkout area clean and maintain safety procedures; report unsafe conditions, accidents, and potential illegal activity.
- Report pricing discrepancies and stay current with ads.
- Meet shift operating hours and productivity benchmarks.
- Successfully completed checker training.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction). Must meet the minimum physical demands of the position.
- Must be 18 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Customer service experience.
- Experience as a Courtesy Clerk.
- Second language speaking, reading, or writing.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Keep knowledge of store products to answer inquiries.
- Visible, friendly, actively greeting customers.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
