Description

Become a Basketball Coach for the fall 2025 season at the Beaverton YMCA for our semi-competitive league. This is a seasonal position that often leads to permanent part-time/full-time employment.

Season timeline: September 3rd - November 8th.

Age range: Coaching 5th-8th graders.

Practices: Mondays and Thursdays starting September 8th from 5-8pm.

Games: Saturdays starting September 13th between 9-3pm. You wouldn't be expected to stay the full six hours - only when your team is playing.

  • Must be available on Saturdays between 9-3pm however, since game times vary each week.
  • You would coach 2-3 teams with an average of 10 players per team.
  • Practices take place at the Beaverton YMCA. Games takes place at the Beaverton YMCA and The Courts in Beaverton.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement basketball training programs for students of various ages and skill levels
  • Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense
  • Plan and conduct practice sessions to improve players' individual skills and team dynamics
  • Provide guidance and support to players during games and competitions
  • Evaluate players' performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement
  • Create a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes sportsmanship and teamwork
  • Ensure the safety of all players during practices and games
Experience
  • Previous experience coaching basketball or working with students in a sports setting is preferred
  • Knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques
  • Strong communication skills to effectively instruct and motivate players
  • Ability to manage behavior and maintain discipline among players

    Experience in other sports or physical education activities (e.g., Judo, Martial arts, Cheerleading, Karate) is a plus
  • CPR and First Aid certification is desirable

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 7 – 14 per week
