Inpatient Cardiologist opportunity at the Beckley VA Med Center in beautiful southern WV

The Beckley VA Medical Center is looking for a noninvasive Cardiologist to join our team. The Beckley VAMC is small enough to connect with the patients but big enough to still have some of the newest equipment available. At the Beckley VA Medical Center, our health care teams are deeply experienced and guided by the needs of veterans, their families, and caregivers.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in collaboration with other providers in administering emergency cardiac care for life-threatening heart conditions such as cardiac arrest
  • Provide consultations for Emergency Department, Inpatient, and Intensive Care Unit and share in call rotation for cardiology
  • Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, or disease prevention
  • Calculate valve areas from blood flow velocity measurements using echocardiogram
  • Compare measurements of heart wall thickness and chamber sizes to standards to identify abnormalities using the results of an echocardiogram
  • Conduct electrocardiogram (EKG), phonocardiogram, echocardiogram, or other cardiovascular tests to record patients  cardiac activity, using specialized electronic test equipment, recording devices, or laboratory instruments
  • Conduct exercise electrocardiogram tests to monitor cardiovascular activity under stress
  • Order medical tests, such as cardiac stress tests, echocardiograms, electrocardiograms, Holter monitors, and consultations through VA or Care in Community for Cardiac Catheterization if warranted
  • Prescribe cardiovascular medication to treat or prevent cardiovascular problems
  • Recommend cardiac surgical procedures with appropriate consultations with collaboration to referring providers in VA or Care in the Community
  • Supervise and train Physician Assistants working in the cardiology department
  • Available for teaching of medical and residents in cardiology rotations
  • Assist other hospitals in the VA for peer reviews by cardiologists
  • Collaborate with physicians about patients to create a treatment plan
  • Ordering and interpretation of Coronary CT Angiography in conjunction with the Radiology Department

  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
  • CME:
    Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

  • Contract:

    No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting
  • Work Schedule:

    Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, Subject to change depending on the needs of the service
