The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford, Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of heavy civil construction, mining, courier, and environmental services throughout the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking a Commercial Fleet Trainer to join our Training Department, based in Nova Scotia/New Brunswick.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform evaluations of commercial drivers to assess professional skills and competencies
  • Deliver theory-based training classes as required
  • Train and mentor students through the Private Career College program
  • Train new employees and provide ongoing development for existing commercial vehicle operators
  • Participate in snow operations training programs
  • Travel throughout the Atlantic Provinces as required
  • Support the Heavy Equipment Training Group as needed
  • Work closely with trainers, mentors & supervisors at various MGOC locations
  • Become familiar with a variety of commercial vehicles and equipment used throughout MGOC
  • Conduct post-incident evaluations as required
  • Deliver training on various small equipment
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class 1 Driver's License with a clean driving abstract
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the commercial trucking industry
  • Experience completing trip inspections, logbooks, and ELD documentation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of the Motor Vehicle Act
  • Thorough understanding of applicable federal, provincial, and local regulations and legislation
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, including the ability to follow and enforce safety procedures and utilize appropriate safety equipment
  • Additional Qualifications Considered an Asset

  • Experience operating environmental refuse collection vehicles
  • Experience hauling tankers and B-trains
  • Experience hauling freight across the Canada–United States border
  • Heavy equipment operating or training experience
  • Previous experience delivering training, coaching, or mentoring commercial drivers
  • Knowledge of the transportation, construction, or environmental services industries
