Summary

Store Associates work independently or as part of a team in any assigned retail area of a commissary store within the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) system, performing a variety of duties including handling, preparing, and stocking grocery and produce items, and checking‑out customer purchases.

Open & closing dates: 10/17/2025 to 01/18/2026

Salary range: $19.56 to $25.43 per hour, no‑till‑end (NTE), 48–64 hours biweekly.

Permanent (part‑time schedule varies by location).

Hanscom AFB, MA;
Portsmouth, NH;
Newport, RI.

Responsibilities
  • Assisting customers and answering questions such as item price or location, and handling bulky/heavy items.
  • Operating an electronic checkout system to record unit price, total purchase, and make change.
  • Handling, preparing, and maintaining stock levels of grocery and produce items.
  • Reviewing stock levels and gathering inventory data to maintain the Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) system.
  • Preparing and maintaining documents to order commissary items, reconcile invoices, and submit requisitions.
  • Maintaining security, safety, and sanitation practices and procedures.
Qualifications

For series 1101. You may qualify by:

  • Experience
    :
    One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
  • Education
    :
    Two full years of successfully completed education above high school at an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college, college, or university.
  • Combination
    :
    Calculate by dividing total months of experience by 12, then dividing semester hours by 60; add percentages. A total of 100% qualifies.

Relevant experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer, or National Service program work. Provide transcripts if relying on education.

Physical Requirements

Stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and climb for prolonged periods; lift, push, pull, carry, and handle items weighing up to 40 lbs independently (occasionally over 40 lbs with assistance). You will attest to your ability to perform these requirements in the questionnaire.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

Evaluation
