Job Description:
Title: Peer Mentor - RISE Scholars
Unit: Student Employee

Reports to: Assistant Dean of Student Support Services

General Summary:RISE Scholarsis a concurrent enrollment opportunity for high school students with intellectual disabilities who attend a participating school district, providing them with access to college-level courses and inclusive learning environments. The RISE Scholars Peer Mentor plays a key role in fostering the social integration of students with intellectual disabilities into campus life while also supporting their academic journey. As part of the RISE Scholars team, Peer Mentors are expected to maintain consistent communication with students, educational coaches, and the program coordinator during working hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide occasional academic support to students
- Attend and actively participate in required trainings
- Regularly update program staff on student progress and any concerns
- Uphold confidentiality of educational information in compliance with FERPA regulations
- Collaborate effectively as part of the program team
- Accurately document hours and activities completed
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled as a student at Middlesex Community College
- Completion of at least 12 credits with a minimum 2.5 GPA and current enrollment in college-level courses
- Willingness to assist others in socializing and engaging with the campus community
- Ability to provide occasional support with students' coursework, including helping them schedule tutoring appointments when necessary
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or an interest in developing these skills
- Strong interpersonal abilities and adaptability
Additional Information:
Salary Range:$17.25 /hour in accordance with the College's Part-time Wage Schedule
Location: Bedfordcampus, with occasional travel to Lowell as needed
Hours: Max of 18.5 hours/week. Schedule to be determined upon hire.
