MITRE’s Network Engineering Team seeks a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Network Engineer with 5+ years of experience in advanced routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP), creating network and MPLS overlay designs for LAN/WAN, and configuring Cisco ISE infrastructure and policies for 802.1X.
Roles & Responsibilities Network Design and Implementation- Implement the operational design, deployment, and management of Cisco ISE infrastructure and 802.1X policies.
- Create and contribute to network routing designs based on OSPF, ISIS, and BGP to ensure high availability, efficiency, and performance.
- Manage and administer enterprise network switches and routers from Cisco and Juniper, implementing and maintaining IOS and Junos OS updates.
- Develop and update critical network documentation and design guides, including ConOPS, SOP/MOP’s, and network diagrams.
- Act as escalation for routing and network troubleshooting for junior team members.
- Contribute to operational excellence by establishing clear procedures and processes for the department.
- Collaborate with teams to improve automation and management toolkits, ensuring proper monitoring, alerting, and metrics collection for system and network reliability.
- Identify and resolve network issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align network designs with organizational goals and mission requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to the engineering team in routing and ISE, and mentor junior engineers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across MITRE to understand mission needs and translate them into network solutions and designs.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to keep MITRE at the forefront of innovation.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of network designs, configurations, and processes (ConOPS, SOP/MOPs, network maps).
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry standards, and government regulations.
- Typical requirements: minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience.
- 4+ years of experience in network engineering, focusing on routing protocols, Cisco ISE, and MPLS overlay networks.
- Experience in Juniper routers and switches, SRX, and MIST.
- Understanding of OSPF, ISIS, and BGP, including troubleshooting and optimization.
- Experience with 802.1X network authentication, authorization, and accounting systems such as Cisco ISE.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for effective teamwork.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance and will be subject to a government security investigation after hiring.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide 24/7 network operation support, including on‑site after‑hours support if necessary.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on‑site.
