Associate FPGA​/ASIC Design Engineer – Summer

MITRE is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing national security, cybersecurity, health, transportation, and citizen services through engineering and applied research. We are seeking talented engineers for our Electronic Systems Development department, starting Summer 2027, to support significant research and development projects. Our work involves collaboration with government agencies, industry, and academia to create innovative solutions that enhance the nation's health and security.

Responsibilities:

• Support the design and implementation of proof-of-concept prototype systems on embedded hardware platforms.
• Develop components across FPGA and ASIC technologies.
• Implement algorithms in software/hardware on embedded systems.
• Develop, integrate, and test custom prototypes in the lab.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Less than 1 year of related experience.
• Solid understanding of digital system design at the Boolean logic level.
• Understanding of basic circuits and electronic principles.
• Experience with Hardware Description Languages (HDLs) such as VHDL, Verilog, or System Verilog.
• Exposure to FPGA or ASIC simulation, synthesis, and implementation tools.
• Familiarity with programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense SECRET clearance.

Skills:

• Knowledge of digital design and electronic principles.
• Experience with FPGA and ASIC technologies.
• Proficiency in programming and HDLs.
• Familiarity with embedded systems and rapid prototyping.
• Understanding of signal processing concepts and MATLAB.
