Connexion Systems & Engineering is seeking a hands-on Robotics Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity supporting cutting-edge research and development initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to develop next-generation robotic and electromechanical systems in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary R&D environment. The ideal candidate is a versatile engineer who enjoys working across mechanical design, embedded systems, robotics software, and hardware integration, taking innovative concepts from initial design through functional prototypes and demonstrations.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a laboratory environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and can independently deliver working systems under aggressive development timelines.
- Design, develop, fabricate, integrate, and test robotic and electromechanical systems.
- Rapidly prototype mechanical components using CAD, 3D printing, machining, and other fabrication techniques.
- Develop robotics software, primarily using C++, for real-time and near-real-time applications.
- Integrate motors, actuators, encoders, sensors, cameras, controllers, and other electromechanical components.
- Develop embedded control and data-acquisition systems using Raspberry Pi, Arduino, microcontrollers, and similar platforms.
- Integrate mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software subsystems into fully functional robotic prototypes.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware/software integration challenges and optimize system performance.
- Develop and execute testing procedures to evaluate robotic systems and identify design improvements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout rapid design-build-test cycles.
- Document technical designs, testing results, and recommendations, and support demonstrations to technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, including hands-on development of robotic, mechatronic, automated, or complex electromechanical systems.
- Strong experience with CAD-based mechanical design, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, Go, or similar programming languages, with strong preference for C++.
- Experience developing software for microcontrollers or embedded computing platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or comparable embedded platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to select, integrate, and troubleshoot motors, actuators, sensors, controllers, and related electromechanical components.
- Experience integrating software with physical hardware, including embedded controllers, sensors, and mechanical systems.
- Strong system-level troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to independently solve technical problems and deliver functional prototypes within tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
- Experience developing robotic systems for medical, surgical, rehabilitation, or human-assistive applications.
- Experience with medical device development.
- Familiarity with robotics communication protocols, including…
