Summary

MITRE’s Finance organization seeks a Manager to serve as a lead business partner. As the Finance Business Partner, you will be the primary source of day‑to‑day financial management and business decision support, playing a key role in operations that maximize MITRE’s value to our government sponsors. The Manager is also a direct manager and developer of people, positioning the team to have a positive impact across the broader finance community, and will take responsibility for special projects with organization-wide impact.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the trusted business partner and line‑level CFO for a center within MITRE, being the single point of contact for Finance to that customer.
    • Act as the “command and control” lead for Finance functions supporting the organization, maintaining broad awareness of issues with program finance, invoicing, operations, and contracts.
    • Develop a reputation as the chief problem‑solver for customers, resolving complex issues across Finance and other parts of the organization.
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with customer stakeholders, prioritizing good financial outcomes for both the customer and MITRE.
    • Ensure strong operating financial controls and adherence to MITRE Finance policies within the customer organization.
  • Work with customers and other partners to drive long‑term planning, aligning financial resources to support desired outcomes.
    • Steer business case development for major investments, ensuring financial sustainability and flexibility.
    • Conduct quarterly reviews on business cases in coordination with Sector Finance leadership.
  • Provide framework and data to steer forecasting and target setting, using demand signals to minimize risk and maximize resource deployment.
    • Develop understanding of opportunities and risks to drive future forecasts and insulate against forecast gaps.
    • Engage customers in understanding the current landscape of awarded work and drive necessary processes and policies.
    • Help develop a methodology for long‑term forecasting, coordinating with other partners across MITRE.
    • Work with customers to develop annual indirect budgets aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Provide regular and recurring management reporting and analysis, including monthly business reviews.
    • Analyze and diagnose business drivers and variances to budget.
    • Focus on lessons learned and prioritize recommendations for leadership actions.
    • Communicate financial results effectively with visual narratives and concise actions.
  • Support business transformation and process reengineering efforts, leveraging on‑the‑ground experience to meet business needs.
Basic Qualifications
  • 10+ years of finance and/or consulting experience within the US Government (Federal) practice of a professional services firm, with a Bachelor’s degree, or 8+ years with an MBA or a PhD and 7 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 4+ years’ experience leading and managing teams.
  • Experience developing and reviewing business cases for federal and international government business.
  • Knowledge of federal budgeting and contracting processes and experience developing revenue forecasts from federal budgets.
  • Relevant academic and/or professional qualification (e.g., MBA).
  • Passion, energy, and enthusiasm for learning and applying creative problem‑solving.
  • Strong attention to detail and resourceful self‑starter who executes on commitments.
