Base Pay Range
Base pay: $59,922 - $100,280 per year.
This position supports Child & Youth services at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Licensure required: independent level Social Worker (LICSW), Therapist (LMFT), Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or Psychologist.
Primary responsibility: provide the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations, including civilian expeditionary workforce. Services include non-medical counseling, training/health and wellness presentations, consultation with parents, child development center personnel, and installation command regarding behavioral health issues.
Responsibilities- Provide non-medical, short-term, solution focused counseling directly to eligible children and youth of service members at assigned primary and secondary locations. Services include assessment, brief counseling and consultation, action planning, referral to resources, and follow-up as indicated.
- Support staff and personnel of Child Development Centers, youth programs and summer camps by providing parent support, training, and guidance.
- Deliver training and health and wellness presentations; participate in health fairs and other base/installation activities focused on children and youth.
- Enter counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application to ensure accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth and provide appropriate linkages. Consistently visible at assigned location(s) to keep services accessible. When working with children, counselor must follow line‑of‑sight protocol.
- Partner with POC to provide CYB services that address installation/facility needs and develop a professional working relationship with the POC.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn and restricted reporting situations per Department of Defense protocol; staff cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
- Communicate with Regional Supervisors, participate in regular supervision, share information on trends and issues; respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense program manager.
- Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs, and other contract activities as assigned/appropriate. Complete activity documentation, integrate pilot activities, and utilize applicable technology to complete required activities.

- Master’s Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health related field.
- Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory, or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
- A minimum of two years of post‑license clinical experience.
- Intermediate‑level competencies in technology and software (Microsoft Suite, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet and application navigation, video‑conferencing platform navigation).
- Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children as assigned, and to respond quickly to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation and/or within a school setting.
- Ability to traverse short and/or long distances within the base to both indoor and outdoor locations, maneuver through rugged, outdoor or uneven locations, and work in outdoor weather and other military base conditions.
- Proof of US citizenship and fluency in English.
- Understanding, sensitivity and empathy for children, service members and their families; ability to develop trusting, helping relationships; ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
