Summary

MITRE’s Network Engineering Team seeks a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Network Engineer with 5+ years’ experience in advanced routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, BGP), network and MPLS overlay design for LAN/WAN, and configuration of Cisco ISE infrastructure and policies for 802.1x.

Roles & Responsibilities Network Design and Implementation
  • Implement the operational design, deployment, and management of Cisco ISE infrastructure and 802.1x policies.
  • Create routing designs based on OSPF, ISIS, and BGP to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Manage and administer enterprise switches and routers (Cisco and Juniper), including OS updates to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Develop and update critical network documentation and design guides, including ConOPS, SOP/MOPs, and network diagrams.
  • Act as an escalation point for routing and network troubleshooting for junior team members.
Operational Excellence
  • Establish clear procedures and operational processes for the department.
  • Collaborate with teams to improve automation and management toolkits; work with reliability teams to monitor systems, alerting, and metrics.
  • Identify and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to align network designs with organizational goals and mission requirements.
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Provide technical guidance in routing and ISE to junior engineers and team members.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across MITRE to translate mission needs into network solutions and designs.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure MITRE remains at the forefront of innovation.
Documentation and Compliance
  • Maintain detailed documentation of network designs, configurations, and processes (ConOPS, SOP/MOPs, network maps).
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry standards, and government regulations.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience.
  • 4+ years of network engineering experience focused on routing protocols, Cisco ISE, and MPLS overlay networks.
  • Experience with Juniper routers, switches, SRX, and MIST.
  • Expertise in routing protocols such as OSPF, ISIS, and BGP, including troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Experience with 802.1x authentication systems such as Cisco ISE.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret clearance; subject to a government security investigation after hiring.
  • Participation in a 24/7 on‑call rotation, including after‑hours on‑site support.
  • At least 50% hybrid on‑site work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications such as CCNP (Cisco) or JNCIP (Juniper).
  • Experience managing and administering Juniper SRX, routers, and switches, including JunOS updates.
  • Familiarity with Juniper‑specific tools for network automation and monitoring.
  • Experience with network automation tools (Ansible, Python, Terraform).
  • Experience managing and administering self‑deployed MPLS networks.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking and hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
Salary and Location

Salary compensation range and midpoint: $122,400 - $153,000 - $183,600 Annual
