SummaryThis Registered Nurse (RN) (Float Pool Intermittent) position is located within the Associate Director-Patient Care Service at the VA Bedford Healthcare System. This position is intermittent/per diem.
Qualifications- English language proficiency: basic written and spoken English is required.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency (ACEN or CCNE) at the time of completion.
- Or in the case of a master's level bridge program, completion of coursework equivalent to a baccalaureate degree and subsequent state licensure.
- Foreign nursing education: must have a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration meeting VA Handbook 5005 requirements; equivalency validation required for degrees above associate.
- Current full, active, unrestricted registration in a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico) or the District of Columbia.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: candidates may be appointed at entry step with 120‑day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure, extendable up to two years.
- Grade determination based on scope, education, and dimension criteria (practice, veteran/patient‑driven care, leadership, professional development, evidence‑based practice/research). Refer to online assessment.
- History for each grade: e.g., ADN or diploma with no additional nursing experience for Nurse I – Level I; BSN or equivalent with 1 year for Level II; etc. (Full qualification table omitted for brevity).
- Physical requirements:
must be physically able to satisfactorily perform the duties. Pre‑placement physical examination required.
- Member of the Float Pool at VA Bedford, providing coverage during staffing shortages.
- Assigned to an inpatient nursing unit by the Nurse of the Day based on staffing needs and competency level.
- Responsible for all elements of the nursing process: assess, plan, implement, evaluate care for short‑term mental health treatment program.
- Coordinate care transition through continuum of care, including patient and family education, self‑management after discharge, and factors impacting customer satisfaction.
- Administer medications and procedures per policy and guidelines.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to influence care outcomes.
- Participate in unit/program‑level quality improvement and customer service initiatives.
- Charge nurse duties, medication administration, documentation, assistance with ADLs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work schedule:
Intermittent/Per Diem. Shifts include 7:30 am‑4 pm, 3:30 pm‑12 am, 11:30 pm‑8 am. Telework not available; position is not virtual. - Benefits:
