Baseball - Junior Varsity Coach
Bedford Public Schools, Bedford, MA
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director to plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the junior varsity baseball program.
- Serve as a positive role model, enforcing discipline, sportsmanship, and the values of teamwork and self‑esteem.
- Coach individual and team skill development to achieve a high level of athletic performance.
- Maintain competency in MIAA rules, event procedures, coaching techniques, and general sport knowledge.
- Recommend and schedule teams, facilities, and transportation in accordance with district policies.
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, and evaluating assistant and volunteer coaches.
- Monitor and record player attendance, statistics, and eligibility requirements.
- Prepare annual budgets, manage finances, submit grant applications, and conduct fundraising activities.
- Enforce MIAA conduct and eligibility rules, academic standards, and safeguard against bullying, hazing, and harassment.
- Ensure player safety, administer medical examinations and concussion testing, and report injuries.
- Plan and lead practice sessions, competitions, and off‑season conditioning programs.
- Organize special events such as assemblies, parent nights, awards banquets, and recognition activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certificate and a bachelor's degree (preferred).
- First aid and CPR certification (required).
- MIAA Coaching Education Certification Level 1 or 2 (required for new varsity head coaches).
- Experience in teaching, coaching, and sports medicine (preferred).
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Positive track record of success in the relevant area of application.
- Sport‑specific certifications (preferred).
- Playing experience (preferred).
Salary: In accordance with the BEA contract.
