Provides patient care and support to the healthcare team in the ambulatory surgical center as needed to support efficient, safe, high-quality care throughout the patient experience including monitoring, medication administration, patient assessment, accurate charting in the electronic health record, team communication and response to emergencies. Supports the revenue cycle through accurately and effectively documenting procedures and medications.

In line with the organization and department's strategic plans, and in coordination with the Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse trains, coordinates, and provides nursing services within their center. This position requires a collaborative, team-based approach to working in partnership with the administrative leadership at the center, including the Practice Manager and the Site Supervisor.

This role functions collaboratively with the physician team and the clinical care team within the surgery center. In addition to executing direct patient care responsibilities, the Registered Nurse works to ensure the surgical area flows efficiently and effectively according to PPGOH Medical standards and guidelines, internal policies and operating procedures, as well as operating in compliance to applicable laws and regulations.

This is a PRN, "pro re nata", position who works on a sporadic, "as needed" basis. A PRN Clinician does not have a regular schedule and must work at least one shift per quarter if a shift is offered by the organization. Availability to accept offered shifts does not create a guarantee of minimum hours per month or per quarter.

• In accordance with PPGOH medical protocols, completes appropriate review of medical history and physical assessment, promptly reporting abnormal findings to clinician.
• Admits and releases patients from recovery room. Educates patients on their chosen method of contraception and aftercare instructions.
• Performs timely and accurate charting in the electronic health record.
• Completes appropriate sedation assessment, starts peripheral IVs, administers moderate sedation as directed by the clinician, and monitors sedated patients intra-operatively.
• Coordinates surgical patient flow, considering the physician on duty and available staff.
• Maintains inventory, supplies and equipment for abortion services including emergency supplies and equipment.
• Performs support of daily inventory count of medication and narcotics, or as required.
• Willing and able to maintain ACLS certification and respond appropriately to medical emergencies, in accordance with PPGOH Medical Standards and Guidelines.
• Assists Clinician and Practice Manager in assuring the abortion services comply with Quality Assurance, Regulatory (ODH, CLIA, PPFA), and OSHA requirements. Maintains surgical services lab and patient logs. Coordinates audits, necessary patient follow up, and completes necessary surgical service reports.
• Ability to receive and respond to emergency calls from abortion services patients during scheduled work hours.
• Gives injections, i.e. DMPA, and therapeutic medication as ordered by the clinician.
• Performs all necessary lab services including venipuncture.
• Performs POCT CLIA non-waived moderately complex tests and CLIA waived tests.
• Competently performs duties as Sedation and Recovery Nurse.
• Promotes and maintains communication with patients, peers, clinic manager, clinicians, and administration.
• Participates as a team player and promotes team building.
• Closely monitors and audits routinely to ensure the team is operating in compliance with the PPGOH Medical Standards and Guidelines as well as applicable laws and regulations.
• Monitors patient schedules, ensures daily huddle updates for the care team regarding preparing for the workday, ensures efficient and effective flow in the surgical area throughout the business day.
• Ensures any medical concerns or complications are promptly identified, responded to, and reported according to PPGOH policy and as required by regulatory bodies.
• Ensures all mandatory reports, including abuse of a minor, are reported promptly according to PPGOH policy and in accordance with the law.
• Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to meet the established goals for their surgery center.
• Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to ensure open communication regarding process changes in workflow, training needs, performance evaluations, and quality improvement plans.
• Collaborates with Director of Nursing to continuously monitor patient experience feedback to effectively respond and form quality improvement plans with leadership and the nursing team to strive for an excellent patient experience and a standardized approach to providing high quality, safe, patient centered, equitable…
