Position: Life Guard (Seasonal)

SUMMARY

Ensures the safety of customers in and around pool areas. Monitors activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides daily swimmer visual surveillance from guard stand or pool deck, cautions swimmers of rule violations to enforce pool safety; identifies and performs the appropriate protocols for distressed patrons within 10 second.
  • Rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid and CPR when needed.
  • Provides customer service by maintaining order in swimming areas, responding to patron inquiries, addressing patron concerns/complaints, and directing patrons to appropriate persons or areas.
  • Maintains pool operations and equipment by vacuuming the pool as needed, scrubbing pool equipment and pool walls for sanitization purposes, operating the power wash machine to cleanse deck areas, removing debris from pool water, and picking up debris from deck areas, around the facility, and in the parking lot.
  • Ensures the sanitization of aquatic facilities by disinfecting bathrooms with the appropriate cleaners, sweeping and mopping floors, picking up debris from patron areas and gathering areas.
  • May perform user services such as officiating swim meets, assisting with swim lessons, and assisting with various programs or special events including facility rentals.
  • May occasionally take admission money at the front gate and provide correct change to ensure the cash drawer is always balanced as needed.
  • May perform other assignments and handle special projects when required.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required, as well as, the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Previous related experience or training preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Must possess an American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED

    SPECIALIZED KSA'S

    Must possess a basic knowledge of pool chemical processes. Must possess demonstrated communication ability related to this work environment.
