Technical Lecturer – Carpentry and Joinery
Role: Technical Lecturer – Carpentry and Joinery
Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus
Salary/Benefits: £33,048 to £38,169 per annum, including up to a £10,000 Market Supplement, 35 days annual leave, bank holidays, teacher's pension, discounts and professional development opportunities.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time
Eligibility: UK‑based contract; you must have the Right to Work in the UK. No sponsorship available.
About the role:
- Deliver high‑quality teaching, plan, deliver, assess and verify subject specialisms across multiple courses and levels.
- Support student success through tutorials, monitoring progress, and creating inclusive, engaging learning environments.
- Lead curriculum development: contribute to course design, mentor new staff, and drive innovation in teaching practices.
- Manage administrative and quality processes: complete reports, maintain records, implement assurance procedures, and support employer engagement for apprenticeships.
- Promote college values and compliance: participate in marketing, uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety standards, and engage in professional development.

Qualifications:
NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry/Joinery (or equivalent), Stage 3 teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE), GCSE English & Maths (A‑C). Willingness to achieve assessor/verifier and Level 2 Literacy/Numeracy if not yet held. - Industry & Teaching
Experience:
Proven experience teaching Carpentry/Joinery to Level 3 in FE and practical construction industry experience. - Professional
Skills:
Strong teaching ability, curriculum development, classroom management, and support of high‑quality learning for diverse learners. - Core Attributes: Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, ability to work independently and in teams, commitment to safeguarding and EDI.
- Flexibility & Development: Willingness to update skills, travel across sites, work flexibly, maintain health & safety awareness, and promote the college's reputation.
