Role: Technical Lecturer – Plumbing

Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications,
plus up to a £10,000 market supplement
, 45 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 29.6 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Part Time

About the role

We are currently seeking a Technical Lecturer in Plumbing to join our Construction department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Technical Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Teaching, Learning & Student Achievement – Deliver high‑quality teaching, assessment and verification across a range of programmes, supporting learners to achieve their potential and succeed.
  • Curriculum Planning & Innovative Delivery – Develop up‑to‑date schemes of work and engaging learning materials, contributing proactively to curriculum development and innovative teaching practice.
  • Assessment, Progress & Quality Assurance – Monitor learner progress, provide effective feedback, meet awarding body standards and contribute to quality assurance and course review processes.
  • Learner Support, Tutorials & Enrichment – Provide individual and group tutorial support, promote positive behaviour and enhance learning through employer engagement and enrichment activities.
  • Leadership, Collaboration & Professional Practice – Support curriculum leadership, mentor colleagues, contribute to recruitment and team activities, and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and CPD standards.
About you
  • Qualifications & Plumbing/Gas Expertise – Level 3 NVQ in Plumbing & Heating with Gas Safe certifications (e.g. CCN1, CKR1) and assessor qualification, supported by strong industry experience and specialist knowledge.
  • Teaching, Assessment & Programme Delivery – Experienced delivering and assessing Plumbing programmes across Levels 1–3, ensuring engaging teaching and high learner achievement.
  • Curriculum Knowledge & Industry Standards – In‑depth understanding of current qualifications (e.g. 9189, 6035, 7202, 8202) and evolving industry practices, including energy efficiency and water regulations.
  • Organisation, Communication & Team Collaboration – Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, able to meet deadlines, build strong relationships and contribute effectively within cross‑college teams.
