Esland Bedford School are seeking an Alternative Provision Tutor to work 1:1 with selected school pupils through the school’s internal Alternative Provision offer.

Our school is an independent SEMH special school for up to 70 children aged 8-18. The school provides education to day pupils, and via our unique Turning the Curve provision, to young people who have been disengaged from education for significant periods of time.

We aim to maintain a nurturing and accepting environment for young people who have not had their needs met in other settings. Likewise, we also aim to provide a work/life balance to staff not available in larger schools.

The Role

We are seeking candidates with experience of working 1:1 with pupils away from a classroom environment, planning and delivering activities aimed at re-engaging young people with a history of school non-attendance or disengagement.

The role goes beyond academic tutoring and is suitable to candidates who have experience working in the alternative provision space or non-school settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing and maintaining Support Plans for specific pupils
  • Mentoring individual pupils
  • Delivering ½ day AP sessions, including away from school site, to referred pupils
  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Liaising with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure pupils who are identified as being in need of support receive appropriate support

  • Feedback and liaison with parents where applicable
  • Feedback and liaison with teachers and other support staff
  • Feedback and liaison with Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

The nature of the role is such that flexibility and self-motivation are crucial to success.
