Senior Engineer

National Highways has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Structures Engineer to join our team in the East region on a permanent basis. The Senior Structures Engineer will provide technical expertise in the asset management and maintenance of highway structure assets. You will lead on the development of structures (bridges and other structures) asset management documents such as management of substandard structures and management of post‑tensioned structures.

This role can be based from our Bedford office.

Applicants must be able to drive as part of the role and must have no more than three points on their driving licence.

• Lead and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
• Lead the development of early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including compiling and checking relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability and costs.
• Monitor the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and rectify issues.
• Identify, prepare briefs and support delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets.
• Develop the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractors for improvement and renewals work.

• Chartered or Incorporated Civil or Structural Engineer with appropriate experience, or equivalent.
• Experience in highway structures management, inspection, assessment and design.
• Working knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, methods of working and Specification for Highway Works and Eurocodes.
• Degree or HND in a relevant discipline.
• Knowledge of Construction Design Management 2015 and associated duties.
