Are you a graduate with a strong interest in engineering, buildings and the science of sound?
Perhaps you studied Maths or Physics at A level and have completed a technical degree, but you are still deciding where to begin your career. If you are analytical, practically minded and confident communicating with people, building acoustics could offer the career you have been looking for.

Talent is recruiting for a successful and well-established specialist consultancy working on some of the UK’s most prestigious construction and development projects.
This is not a graduate position where you will spend months watching from the sidelines. From the beginning, you will receive excellent training while gaining hands-on experience across live projects.
What is building acoustics?Building acoustics is about controlling how sound travels within and between buildings. Acoustic consultants help architects, engineers, developers and construction teams create spaces that are comfortable, compliant and fit for purpose.
Your work could influence the design of residential developments, hotels, offices, schools, healthcare facilities, entertainment venues and major mixed-use projects.
What will you be doing? With training and support from experienced consultants, you will gradually become involved in:
- Attending sites and carrying out noise-measurement surveys
- Completing sound-insulation testing
- Using specialist software to produce acoustic models
- Analysing technical information and survey results
- Preparing clear and professional reports
- Supporting the acoustic design of new buildings and developments
- Communicating with architects, developers, engineers and construction teams
- Attending client meetings as your experience and confidence grow
- Supporting projects through planning, design, construction and completion
As you develop, you will be given greater responsibility and the opportunity to manage your own projects from start to finish.
Who are we looking for?You do not need previous experience in acoustics, as comprehensive training will be provided. However, you will need:
- A degree in acoustics, engineering, physics, mathematics, audio technology or another relevant technical subject
- A strong academic background, including Maths or Physics at A level
- A genuine interest in engineering, construction and the built environment
- Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- A practical approach and an interest in understanding how things work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The confidence and professionalism to represent the consultancy in front of clients
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- A friendly, enthusiastic and approachable personality
- A full UK driving licence
- The existing right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
The position is based at modern, out-of-town offices in Bedford, with free on-site parking.
You must be able to commute reliably to the Bedford office. A driving licence is essential, as the role will also involve travelling to project sites.
What is on offer?- A starting salary of £26,000+ per annum
- Regular salary reviews as your skills and responsibilities develop
- Excellent structured training
- One-to-one mentoring from experienced acoustic consultants
- Early involvement in live and high-profile projects
- A clear and supported career-development pathway
- The opportunity to build both technical and client-management skills
- Increasing responsibility as your experience develops
- A collaborative and supportive working environment
- Free on-site parking
- The opportunity to establish a long-term professional career in a growing specialist industry
Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship cannot be offered for this position.
If you have a technical mind, enjoy solving problems and want to work on projects you can see taking shape around you, this could be an exceptional first step into an engineering-led career.
