Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Procurement Officer within the Strategic Commissioning and Procurement Team.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated, commercially-focused procurement professional to provide strategic and operational support to our Senior Procurement Officers and the Manager for Commissioning & Procurement, by leading on a wide variety of both revenue and capital projects, ensuring that the Council has an effective and value for money approach to Procurement, in full compliance with the new legislative regime (Procurement Act 2023 and Procurement Regulations 2024).
Responsibilities- Lead on a wide variety of revenue and capital procurement projects, ensuring value for money and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Provide strategic and operational support to Senior Procurement Officers and the Manager for Commissioning & Procurement.
- Collaborate with procurement colleagues within the immediate team and the wider Environment, Corporate & Property team to support a range of procurement activity.
- Assist with training and development opportunities for the successful candidate and contribute to continuous improvement within the function.
- Ideally CIPS qualified or working towards this qualification.
- Substantial experience in contracting and procurement.
- Ability to work at pace with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a dynamic team.
Contract type:
Full time permanent;
Contract hours: 37 per week. Salary: BBU
11 41,771 - 45,091 (pro rata for part-time roles).

Bedford Borough Council, Bedfordshire;
Borough Hall Bedford. Hybrid work pattern.
Please note:
During January 2026 the Council will move to a three-day office week, hybrid working arrangement from early February 2026 onward. Please only apply if this working pattern is acceptable to you.
