MDT Assistant

The post holder will join a dedicated and supportive Cancer Team, playing a vital role in ensuring patients move smoothly through their outpatient pathway. As a key administrative member of the service, they will help coordinate and manage appointments in line with national cancer targets, contributing directly to timely access to care.

Working at the heart of the patient journey, the post holder will provide accurate, efficient, and proactive administrative support. They will help maintain clear communication, well‑organised records, and a seamless flow of information that enables clinical teams to deliver high‑quality care. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, values precision, and is motivated by work that makes a meaningful difference to patients and their families.

Main

duties of the job

They will assist in collecting Cancer Waiting Time Data for their nominated site, focussing on the new 28 day target, using the tracking and electronic recording systems currently in use by the Trust, to ensure that patients do not breach any targets set currently or in the future.

To work as part of the Cancer Services Team to ensure cross cover, cover for periods of annual and sickness leave and continuity of service across all site‑specific tumour MDTs, as directed by the MDT Co‑ordinators.

To work strictly within the Government's targets for outpatients and Choose & Book, ensuring patients pathways are in line with national targets.

To accurately record the data relating to outpatient pathway ensuring that all data is correct and up to date and ensuring that action is taken to amend any data errors.

  • To book appointments in line with national guidelines.
  • To support the triage process and monitor timeliness of the Consultants triage in all services.
  • To work with the diagnostics services when booking Straight to Test Pathways.
  • To assist with the process of Bounce Back of referrals that are incomplete.
  • Communicate with patients, colleagues, internal and external contacts in a courteous, professional and timely manner at all times by various methods, i.e. telephone, written, face to face.
Person Specification Qualifications
  • Good standard of general education
  • General administration
  • 4 or above in GCSE Math & English
  • IT skills equivalent to RSA2, NVQ2 or relevant experience of Microsoft Word Packages
Experience
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing routine information
  • Experience of working within a confidential environment
  • Experience of appointment procedures and processes
  • NHS experience
Knowledge
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word Package
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Methodical, organised approach to work, with good attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
