A well-established secondary school in Bedford is looking to appoint a Caretaker to join the premises team from September 2026.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for an experienced caretaker or maintenance professional who enjoys keeping buildings safe, secure, and running efficiently. You'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the school and helping create an environment where pupils can thrive.
The RoleWorking closely with the Site Manager, you'll help maintain the school site to a high standard while ensuring health and safety remains a priority.
Responsibilities include:
- Opening and closing the school site
- Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs
- Undertaking routine health and safety inspections
- Maintaining the buildings, grounds, and outdoor areas
- Preparing rooms for school events and activities
- Assisting with deliveries and contractor access
- Reporting maintenance issues and supporting site compliance

The Successful CandidateThe ideal candidate will be practical, reliable, and able to use their initiative to manage a variety of maintenance tasks.
Previous experience as a Caretaker, Site Assistant, Premises Assistant, Facilities Assistant, or Maintenance Operative is desirable. Experience working within a school is beneficial, but candidates with transferable skills from other sectors are also encouraged to apply.

Salary & Benefits£28,000–£32,000 per annum (depending on experience)
