Purpose of the role:
The Procurement and Supply Chain Manager is responsible for establishing, leading, and continuously improving the Group's end-to-end Procurement and Supply Chain function across all business entities.
Operating as a Group Shared Services function, the role provides commercial governance over sourcing, procurement execution, supplier management, expediting, and logistics while ensuring appropriate separation between technical specification, commercial commitment, and financial control. While strategic in nature, the role remains hands-on, leading a small procurement team and directly managing strategic, high-value and complex procurement activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management Strategic Sourcing and Commercial Management Develop sourcing strategies for strategic procurement categories.
Lead sourcing activities for high-value, complex and critical procurement initiatives.
Lead negotiations relating to pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties and commercial conditions.
Drive cost optimisation through strategic sourcing, supplier consolidation and commercial negotiation to ensure the best value for the Group.
Develop framework agreements and long-term supplier partnerships where appropriate.
Evaluate procurement decisions based on total cost of ownership rather than purchase price alone.
Procurement Planning and Coordination Consolidate procurement demand across multiple projects and business entities.
Develop procurement plans aligned to project schedules, budgets and delivery milestones.
Identify long-lead items and implement proactive procurement strategies.
Coordinate procurement activity across concurrent projects to optimise resources and supplier capacity and reduce procurement conflicts across competing priorities.
Procurement Execution Oversee the execution of procurement activities across all entities and projects.
Personally manage strategic or complex procurement activities where required.
Ensure purchase requisitions and purchase orders are processed accurately and within agreed service levels.
Ensure procurement activities align with project schedules and operational priorities.
Monitor procurement progress and proactively resolve issues affecting project delivery.
International Procurement, Logistics and Expediting Manage international procurement activities, including Intercompany terms, foreign exchange considerations and import documentation.
Coordinate procurement activities with the project-based expeditors, logistics coordinators, freight forwarders and customs clearing agents.
Ensure compliance with SARS customs regulations, import permits and international trade requirements.
Monitor shipment progress and proactively resolve logistics issues impacting project delivery.
Support projects by ensuring critical materials are delivered on time and in accordance with contractual requirements.
Governance and Controls:
Procurement Governance Establish and maintain the Group Procurement and Supply Chain Policy, procedures, standards, governance framework, documentation templates, and commercial practices across all entities.
Develop and maintain procurement delegations of authority and approval workflows.
Ensure procurement activities comply with Group policies, commercial governance, legal requirements and internal controls.
Own the supplier onboarding process, ensuring appropriate commercial, financial, legal and compliance due diligence.
Ensure no supplier is engaged without the appropriate commercial approvals and procurement process being followed.
Prevent retrospective purchase orders and unauthorised supplier appointments.
Promote continuous improvement and procurement best practice throughout the Group.
Supplier Relationship and Performance Management Develop, maintain and continuously improve the Group Preferred Supplier Programme.
