Hours of Week: 40 Term Time Only Contract Type:
Permanent Requirements:

Be able to maintain effective record keeping

Ability to supervise groups of students

Ability to support/instruct other TA’s and support staff

Ability to effectively use ICT to support learning, or to undertake training to do so.

Good literacy and numeracy skills

Good organisational and time management skills

Ability to form and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with children and young people

Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner.

Awareness of legislation relating to child protection

As a teaching assistant you will:
  • Support teachers with: planning lessons, delivery of lessons and evaluating lessons.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the students, you work with, by reading Educational Health Care Plans, Individual Education Plans, Risk Assessment and other relevant documentation, in order to better meet their needs.
  • Keep up to date with any changes in learning and teaching related to subject area, including DfE guidance and curriculum changes and ensure staff are kept informed.
  • Keep up to date with any legislation or guidance pertaining to the safeguarding of children and young people.
  • Set high expectations so that all pupils are inspired, motivated and challenged to reach their full potential.
  • Create a positive climate for learning, by explicitly teaching lesson routines and applying behaviours systems consistently and fairly.
  • Create a positive climate for learning by explicitly teaching and modelling acceptable and agreed behaviour.
  • Support well-structured lessons which allo adequate time to embed new knowledge, understanding and skills and are responsive to pupils' understanding.
  • Systematically check pupils' understanding and act to correct any misconceptions.
  • provide pupils with feedback aimed at moving their leaning forward.
  • To support the planning and delivery of lessons across the curriculum.

Young Foundations is an award-winning organisation, providing step-down services, and specialist education, for children and young adults. Howard House School is an independent day special school, located in rural Bedlington, Northumberland, catering for pupils with SEMH and ASD. It is co-educational and can accept up to 40 pupils aged between 10 and 18 years.
