• Mondays to Fridays: 9:00am to 2:00pm

• Services are required during school terms only

• No service required on Saturdays, Sundays, school holidays and gazetted public holidays

The Youth Worker will support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) through structured developmental programmes and individualised assistance. The successful candidate will work closely with the school’s Special Educational Needs Officer, teachers and counsellor.

The Youth Worker will report to the Head of Department for Character and Citizenship Education.

Programme Planning and Delivery

• Design and conduct structured programmes for students with Special Educational Needs.

• Adapt activities according to students’ developmental needs, learning abilities and individual profiles.

• Prepare suitable programme materials and resources.

• Conduct engaging group-based and individual sessions.

Life Skills Development

• Help students develop practical independence and daily living skills.

• Teach personal organisation and age-appropriate self-care routines.

• Support students in following instructions and completing structured tasks.

• Help students navigate everyday social situations appropriately.

• Build students’ confidence and ability to function more independently.

Behavioural Support

• Conduct activities that encourage positive behaviour.

• Help students understand and manage their actions in social and learning environments.

• Reinforce appropriate classroom and social behaviours.

• Apply positive behaviour support strategies.

• Use trauma-informed approaches when supporting students.

• Help students develop self-regulation skills.

Emotional Regulation

• Help students recognise, understand and express their emotions appropriately.

• Teach practical coping strategies for managing difficult emotions.

• Support students in developing emotional resilience.

• Provide a safe and supportive environment for students to practise emotional regulation.

Individualised Student Support

• Provide group-based and one-to-one support when required.

• Build positive and trusting relationships with students.

• Understand students’ individual strengths, needs and challenges.

• Adjust intervention methods based on students’ responses and progress.

Collaboration with School Staff

• Work closely with the Special Educational Needs Officer, Form Teachers and School Counsellor.

• Attend brief discussions concerning students’ needs and progress.

• Share relevant observations from programme sessions.

• Align programme activities with students’ Individual Education Plans where applicable.

• Support coordinated intervention and follow-up plans.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of sessions and activities conducted.

• Document observations regarding students’ participation and progress.

• Submit progress reports at the midpoint and end of the contract.

• Include activity summaries, student observations and follow-up recommendations.

• Maintain confidentiality when handling student information.

Safeguarding and Student Welfare

• Comply with the school’s child-safeguarding policies.

• Remain alert to student welfare and safety concerns.

• Escalate concerns promptly to the Special Educational Needs Officer or School Counsellor.

• Maintain professional boundaries and protect students’ confidentiality.

• Must be registered with the Ministry of Education.

• Minimum recognised diploma in Youth Work, Social Work, Special Education, Psychology or a related field.

• At least two years of experience working with children or youths with Special Educational Needs.

• Experience supporting students with Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD is preferred.

• Familiar with positive behaviour support strategies.

• Familiar with trauma-informed approaches.

• Able to plan and conduct structured developmental programmes.

• Able to provide both group-based and individualised student support.

• Good communication, interpersonal and documentation skills.

• Patient, empathetic and able to build rapport with children.

• Able to collaborate effectively with teachers, counsellors and SEN professionals.

• Able to maintain confidentiality and comply with child-safeguarding requirements.
