Deputy Head of Junior School (Pastoral and wellbeing)
Start Date:
August 2026
Location:
Beijing, China
As Head of Learning Support within a Dulwich school, you will play a key leadership role in ensuring high-quality provision for students with additional learning needs across the Junior School. You will oversee Learning Support and English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision, working closely with teaching staff, counsellors, and school leaders to ensure inclusive, student-centred practice that enables all learners to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
This role is pivotal in providing strategic and operational leadership for learning support services, including early identification, intervention planning, progress monitoring, and transition support. You will engage proactively with all stakeholders—students, parents, teachers, and external professionals—to ensure that support systems and pathways are of the highest possible standard. Reporting to the Head of Junior School, you will promote a culture of inclusion, growth, and belonging, ensuring that learning differences are understood, supported, and celebrated across the school community.
You also share with all colleagues a responsibility to:
Safeguard and promote the welfare of students in the Junior School and the College in line with EiM’s Safeguarding Framework, Policies, and Code of Conduct.
Lead and promote inclusive teaching and learning practices, ensuring high-quality differentiation and appropriate support across the curriculum.
Work collaboratively with teachers to support positive behaviour, learning engagement, and student wellbeing.
Foster a culture of inclusion within the school community, where all learners’ needs are recognised, valued, and supported.
Maintain high standards within learning environments, ensuring they are accessible, supportive, and conducive to learning (including Engaging Spaces).
Ensure the effective organisation, storage, and care of learning support resources.
Keep up to date with developments in inclusive education, SEND best practice, and statutory requirements.
Implement school policies and guidelines as directed by the Junior School Leadership Team (JSLT), DCB, and EiM.
