The Physician Assistant will work directly with Dr. Ryan Cleary, supporting the Minimally Invasive Urologic Oncology service line at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. This role focuses on perioperative and clinic-based care for urologic oncology patients, including bedside surgical first assistance for robotic procedures, postoperative management, and participation in multidisciplinary cancer care coordination. The PA will play a key role in improving continuity of care, supporting outpatient recovery, and facilitating collaboration between surgical, nursing, and oncology teams.

Operating Room/Perioperative Care
- Serve as bedside first assist during robotic urologic oncology procedures (typically 6–7 days per month), performing duties such as, but not limited to, managing suction, retraction, and dynamic instrument manipulation through an assistant port.
- Participate in pre‑ and postoperative patient management, including rounding on inpatients with postoperative complications and coordinating discharges.
- Collaborate and train RN Navigator to conduct next‑day recovery outreach for recently discharged surgical patients, addressing postoperative questions and concerns.
- Assist in streamlining the transition of postoperative care toward an outpatient‑focused model to reduce inpatient rounding demands.
- Conduct clinic sessions up to four days per week, evaluating general urology and postoperative patients.
- Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and other oncology‑related hospital committees to ensure coordinated patient management.
- Serve as a liaison between surgical and office teams to ensure timely communication and continuity of care for Urologic Oncology patients.
- Work closely with Dr. Cleary and associated providers to optimize scheduling and patient flow between the OR, clinic, and hospital.
- Participate in Urologic Oncology program development and quality‑improvement efforts within the Bel Air region.
- Provide support for cross‑coverage or limited consultative responsibilities for oncology patients during evening or weekend call rotations.
- Operating Room: Approximately 5–6 days per month, typically consisting of three robotic cases per day.
- Clinic: 4 days per week, focusing on general urology and postoperative care.
- Hospital Rounding: Focused on Urologic Oncology postoperative complications or readmissions; goal is to minimize routine inpatient rounding.
- Meetings: Participation in hospital‑based tumor boards and related oncology meetings as scheduled.
- Call: Daily call for Urologic Oncology patients, weekend hospital call for up to 6 weekends per year.
