Job Overview

The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Lead Water Treatment Operator
. This role is under limited supervision, performs routine tasks related to the operation of a water treatment facility. It is responsible for maintaining plant compliance with EPA standards and state water Commission. The operator assists with training other personnel and leading work crews, demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and works cooperatively to provide quality seamless utility service.

Works with Area Manager and/or State Director to ensure continuity of processes, goals and vision of the company.

Work Location and Schedule

This position will travel between service areas near Bel Air, MD
. Schedule is Monday through Friday. After‑hour and weekend on‑call support may be required. Must be available to work shift work; weekend scheduling may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits.
  • Oversee the organization and delegation of team tasks.
  • Develop and maintain operational records and prepare reports in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Oversee sampling and testing systems, and the functionality of pumps, conveyors, blowers and other equipment.
  • Install and repair pumps, motors, valves and piping; diagnose, repair and clarify aeration equipment, ion exchange bins, filtration equipment and other major apparatuses.
  • Monitor and sample well and groundwater upon entry to the system; adjust treatment levels when non‑standard variances are detected; sample water prior to exiting system.
  • Detect and report atypical conditions, such as identifying damaged, malfunctioning and tampered meters, detecting and reporting leaks, high/low consumption, exposed wiring and other safety hazards.
  • Clean and maintain treatment plant, pumping stations and wells; conduct ongoing repairs to equipment, or shut down equipment for more extensive maintenance and repair, activating alternate equipment as needed; request services of outside maintenance vendor for major repairs and overhauls.
  • Activate pumps, valves and other processing equipment to move water through various treatment processes; dispose of waste materials removed from water in line with Company procedures and government controls.
  • Implement emergency procedures in the event of overflow or spill of chemicals or unpurified water; follow safety protocol and notify local emergency responders.
  • Add chemicals to water by predetermined formula; maintain minimum inventory levels of these materials.
