Position Summary

Provides direct care to adult and geriatric residents/participants. Assists in the management, coordination and maintenance of an efficient, productive, and organized clinical staff within the assigned area. In the absence of nursing leadership, has administrative authority over the functions and activities of the clinical department. Demonstrates knowledge of and delivers care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the State in which employed, functioning as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

Principal

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works cooperatively and efficiently with departmental community leadership.
  • Assists in implementing clinical services and programs.
  • Effectively communicates expected outcomes, efficient work routines, and work procedures to the clinical staff.
  • Assists with implementation and evaluation of quality of care, including ongoing auditing of Quality Indicators.
  • Assures adherence to clinical policies and procedures within departmental guidelines.
  • Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers to assure appropriate care and compliance with State and/or Federal regulations.
  • Assumes administrative authority for clinical departments in the absence of nursing leadership.
  • Assists in maintaining clinical budgets.
  • Assumes a community presence that monitors resident care.
  • Oversees completion of clinical documentation per community policy, and State and Federal regulations.
  • Follows regulatory and community standards, policies, procedures and precautions to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for enhancing professional knowledge and skills through participation in educational programs and seminars.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Management Responsibilities
  • Interprets existing policies and procedures to licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, certified medication aides, residents, and families.
  • Supervises staff and evaluates the provision of direct resident care, initiating corrective action as necessary.
  • Follows staffing guidelines and makes nursing assignments according to the characteristics of the resident population.
  • Participates in the associate evaluation process by providing information on the clinical performance of licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, and certified medication aides to the DON or DCS.
  • Monitors staff compliance with infection control, personal protection equipment, blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling, and fire safety.

  • Frequently required to push and pull items, such as resident/patient beds, requiring a force of up to 75 pounds.
  • Frequently required to carry or lift items weighing up to 25 pounds at waist height; required to obtain assistance when lifting objects over 25 pounds.
  • Frequently required to assist in maneuvering resident/patients weighing 100–400 pounds and occasionally over 400 pounds.
  • Tolerate standing and walking for up to 8 hours on hard and soft surfaces.
  • Frequently perform activities that require stooping, bending, reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day.
  • Constantly able to effectively communicate.
  • Occasionally required to sit in a stationary position for up to 30 minutes at a time.
  • Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft signals such as resident calls, verbal orders, monitors, and phone calls.
  • Frequently able to use hands and fingers for simple and fine motor tasks such as taking vital signs, writing, and using a keyboard.
  • Frequently use visual perception to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating resident/patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens.
  • Occasionally detect unusual odors indicating infection or other problems.
