Waldo Community Action Partners (WCAP) is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization serving low‑income residents in Waldo County through early childhood programs.
Position:
Classroom Aide (Belfast, ME)
Wage: $16/hour.
Hours:
32 hours/week, 40 weeks/year.
Monthly Early Childhood Educator Workforce Salary Supplement: $240 to $540 depending on Maine Roads to Quality tier.
Food Service- Assist food service personnel with preparation, serving, and clean‑up of meals.
- Transport meals and dishes to and from the kitchen.
- Maintain a clean, neat appearance (closed‑toed shoes, hair covering) while in the food service area.
- Assist teachers with classroom activities and routines on a daily basis.
- Respond quickly in emergencies, e.g., escort children during fire drills, evacuation drills, or actual emergencies; shift away from floor to address unsafe behaviors.
- Bend at knees and hips to communicate with children during meals, play, and other activities.
- Lift, hold, and stabilize children for hand washing, diapering, toileting, and comforting upset children.
- Sit on the floor during play and cleaning times.
- Assist with transitions to/from playground and supervise playground activities.
- Participate in meal time management.
- Participate in child development activities as instructed by teachers.
- Assist teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate educational activities.
- Assume classroom responsibilities when teacher is absent.
- Convey accurate and prompt communications from families or staff to teaching staff.
- Assist with general classroom set‑up, maintenance, and cleaning.
- Keep and submit accurate daily time sheets bi‑weekly.
- Perform data entry as required.
- Pass a physical examination and TB screening.
- Have adequate transportation, a valid driver's license, and meet WCAP's insurance requirements.
- Meet WCAP’s background clearance requirements.
- Valid Criminal Record History Check (CHRC) through DOE.
- At least one year of experience in a preschool or infant‑toddler classroom (preferred).
- Flexible and able to work with multiple staff members and volunteers.
- Data entry proficiency preferred.
- Achieve and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential preferred.
- All listed requirements and skills are essential unless otherwise indicated.
