We are recruiting for an established professional services and advisory organisation is expanding its Belfast economics team and is looking to appoint an Economic Consultant.

The role offers the opportunity to work on interesting and varied assignments for organisations across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, spanning both the public and private sectors.

You will be involved in projects where economic analysis, research and commercial insight are used to help clients make better-informed decisions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking economic and market research and interpreting complex information.
  • Building and developing Excel-based economic and financial models.
  • Preparing economic impact assessments and supporting business cases.
  • Undertaking cost-benefit analysis and evaluating investment or policy options.
  • Analysing datasets, testing assumptions and identifying key findings.
  • Researching markets, industries and sectors to understand emerging opportunities and challenges.
  • Developing clear, evidence-based recommendations for clients.
  • Preparing reports, presentations and supporting materials for senior stakeholders.
  • Working directly with clients to understand their objectives and help shape the analysis required.
  • Taking responsibility for individual work streams while contributing to wider project teams.
  • Working across a broad range of sectors and adapting quickly to new assignments.

Applicants should have:

  • 2-3 years' relevant experience in economics, consulting, government, business analysis or a similar analytical role.
  • A degree in Economics, Business, Engineering or another numerate discipline.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Excel, with experience developing or working with models.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • An ability to research unfamiliar subjects and quickly develop a good understanding of a new sector or market.

Experience, or a strong interest in developing expertise in:

  • Economic impact assessment
  • Cost-benefit analysis
  • Business cases
  • Economic modelling
  • Evidence-based decision-making
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Confidence working with clients and presenting findings.
  • A practical, commercial approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively within a team.

You don't need to have worked across every area listed above. We are particularly interested in people who have a strong analytical foundation and the ability to learn quickly, communicate well and apply their skills to new challenges.
