Regulation & Compliance / Licensing Lead, New Independent Distribution Network Operator
UK flexible | Permanent | Founding team | Travel as required
About our client
I'm recruiting for a major UK energy group that is new to the iDNO market and is launching its first Independent Distribution Network Operator (iDNO) business, built from scratch. You'd join the founding team, with the backing of an established group and the pace of a start-up.
The opportunity
As Regulation & Compliance / Licensing Lead, you'll own the regulatory and licensing activity needed to obtain and maintain an electricity distribution license for this new entrant. You'll lead the licence application while designing a proportionate, sustainable compliance model for the live business, ensuring it has clear obligations, controls and regulatory evidence from day one. You'll work closely with the founding leadership team, regulators, code bodies and assurance providers.
Key responsibilities
- Own the Ofgem license application and regulator engagement
- Coordinate regulatory submissions, responses and supporting evidence
- Develop the iDNO compliance framework, policies and controls
- Lead and coordinate industry-code accession activity
- Define the ongoing regulatory reporting and assurance calendar
- Monitor regulatory change and advise the leadership team on implications
- Maintain effective relationships with regulators, code bodies and assurance providers
About you
- Deep knowledge of UK electricity network regulation
- Experience of Ofgem licensing, regulated submissions or industry-code qualification
- Strong governance, risk, compliance and assurance capability
- The ability to translate complex obligations into clear operational controls
- Credibility with regulators, industry bodies and senior leaders
- A hands-on regulatory specialist, comfortable leading an application while building the compliance model for a live business
What success looks like
- License granted to plan
- Compliance framework approved
- Obligations clearly owned
- Effective regulatory relationships
What's on offer
- A rare chance to lead licensing and build the compliance framework for a new regulated business from the ground up
- Founding team position with real influence over how the business operates
- The stability and resources of a major energy group entering a new market
- Flexible UK working, with travel as required
