The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join their commercial team following the award of several new contracts across Northern Ireland.
The role can be based from either Belfast or Cookstown and offers the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of construction, redevelopment and refurbishment projects throughout the UK and Ireland.
This would suit someone with a strong main contracting background who is comfortable handling both estimating and commercial responsibilities from tender stage through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse construction drawings and specifications to identify labour, material and specialist requirements.
- Prepare enquiry packages and obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure best value.
- Prepare and manage subcontractor orders.
- Complete monthly subcontractor valuations through to final account.
- Prepare and submit monthly valuations to the PQS.
- Record and manage additional works, variations and cost changes.
- Liaise with clients to agree rates, variations and cost analysis.
- Measure works in line with contract-specific schedules of rates.
- Prepare and submit interim valuations and final accounts.
- Work closely with Management and Accounts to maintain strong cost control and project profitability.
- Produce monthly commercial reports for management and client progress meetings.
- Attend and contribute to site progress meetings.
Candidate Requirements
- Ideally degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- HND/HNC candidates or those with strong construction experience will also be considered.
- Minimum 2 years experience within Quantity Surveying and/or Estimating for a main contractor.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Comfortable working with minimal supervision.
- Able to manage workload effectively and show initiative.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Project.
