Job Summary
MIO are currently seeking sessional ‘Artist Development Mentors’ to support participants in developing their creative practice over a 30‑hour period spread across 3–6 months.
Job DescriptionOur mentoring scheme supports talented individuals with a strong interest in the arts and minimal formal training.
We have up to six mentees. Each mentor will be paired with participants based on disciplinary fit:
- Metal sculpture
- Life drawing / figurative painting
- Surrealist painting / sculpture
- Pop Art
- Surrealist / Anime
This role enables you to help others build confidence, visibility, and a future in the arts.
Job RequirementsAs a Making It Out Arts Mentor you will:
- Deliver up to eight half‑day sessions
- Support mentees to develop their artistic practice
- Coach individuals in building a strong arts portfolio
- Help identify and access further creative opportunities
- Support mentees in sharing and promoting their work via social media and websites
- Support them in making applications to courses, exhibitions, and other opportunities
- Build a positive, supportive, and encouraging mentoring relationship
Who we're looking for:
- Practising artists or creatives with a passion for mentoring
- Individuals with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathetic, encouraging, and non‑judgemental
- An understanding of, or interest in, working with people affected by the criminal justice system
- Experience in mentoring, teaching, or community arts is desirable
