Artist Commission: Illuminated Sculpture, Community Making & Projection
Everyone Here (EH) is seeking an artist, artist collective or creative team to develop an ambitious body of illuminated sculptural work for Light Works 2026.
The commission will create work to be used and installed across both Hall Park in Workington and Seascale Village in Mid Copeland, creating a visual and conceptual connection between the two places.
At the heart of the commission will be the development of large-scale illuminated sculptural work, potentially including a giant serpent/dragon, boat-like or vessel forms, or a combination of interconnected structures, accompanied by a programme of community making that creates illuminated objects, lanterns and modular sculptural elements.
We want the artist to think about the commission as a family of work rather than a single object.
Some elements should be permanent installations, creating a physical legacy from Light Works within the communities. Other elements should be modular, moveable and adaptable, enabling them to be installed differently across Hall Park and Seascale Village, brought together for performance, and potentially used again in future events.
The appointed artist will develop the work collaboratively with the wider Light Works creative team, considering how sculpture, light, projection, moving image, music, movement and performance can interact across the two sites.
Renumeration: We are expecting to award a total budget of £30K and would like the artist to propose how they will split this between resources and fee. Our expectation is that the piece will be made with community members over October and November.
Interview Process: Please submit proposals by 12pm on the 16th September. You will be invited to an online workshop interview on 24th September, so please keep this date free.
Submission: Please prepare a visual document that outlines your approach to this brief and 3 examples of your previous work as a fabricator as well as a recent CV and one reference.
