Freelance Illustrator – Retro Futurism Sci-Fi

Join a creative project focused on developing 2D character and environment sketches for a retro-futuristic sci-fi world. This role requires an artist with a strong sense of visual storytelling, able to convey mood, scale, and direction for later 3D development. The project features diverse settings, including high-tech facilities, tropical islands, dense jungles, ancient ruins, volcanic caves, and lunar surfaces. The ideal candidate will bring a 1960s retro-futuristic and Googie-inspired aesthetic to life, supporting a Blender-based workflow for seamless translation into 3D models.

• Produce detailed 2D sketches of characters and environments reflecting retro-futuristic sci-fi themes
• Develop concepts for a variety of settings, such as high-tech facilities, tropical islands, jungles, ruins, caves, and lunar landscapes
• Ensure all artwork communicates clear forms, mood, and scale suitable for 3D modeling
• Deliver files in formats compatible with Blender workflows
• Incorporate feedback and iterate on designs as needed

• Proven experience in 2D sketching for character and environment design
• Strong portfolio demonstrating retro-futuristic and Googie-inspired styles
• Ability to illustrate both people and diverse natural/architectural settings
• Proficiency with digital illustration tools and file formats suitable for 3D translation
• Excellent visual communication and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
