Maine Health Cancer Care is seeking a General Hematologist/Oncologist to join the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at its Belfast location. The Maine Health Cancer Care Belfast practice and Maine Health Waldo County General Hospital are located in Belfast, Maine – a family‑friendly historic and scenic coastal town that is the county seat of Waldo County. Belfast is known for its arts scene, access to outdoor activities such as the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Rail Trail, and easy driving distance to popular attractions like Camden, Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island, and Acadia National Park.
Maine Health is a nationally recognized integrated care system that delivers highly coordinated cancer and hematology care across a network that cares for 7,600 new cancer patients each year. Our programs have grown significantly over the past three years, exceed 80% market share across the state of Maine, and are academically affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. The practice includes a fellowship training program, robust clinical and translational research, and membership in NCORP and NCI cooperative groups.
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in an established hematology and medical oncology practice affiliated with Maine Health Waldo County General Hospital. Hematologists/oncologists within the practice evaluate and treat patients with a range of hematologic and oncologic conditions, supported by specialists throughout the Maine Health system. Participation in subspecialty, system‑wide multidisciplinary tumor boards is encouraged; a one‑day‑per‑week subspecialty clinic at the nearby Penobscot Bay Medical Center/Maine Health Rockport Cancer Care location is available for those with subspecialty interest.
QualificationsPrior experience in oncology within an academic health system or academically‑oriented private practice is preferred, although strong candidates in the early stages of their careers will be considered. Candidates should have a strong patient‑centered approach, be comfortable working in a collaborative environment, and possess the ability to engage in academic and research activities.
