Job Description
Responsible to Principal Educational Psychologist/Senior Educational Psychologist. Responsible for:
This post carries no formal managerial or supervisory responsibilities for other staff.
The Assistant Educational Psychologist will contribute to the Education Authority's responsibilities for children with Special Educational Needs. They will be expected to contribute to the provision and development of an effective and high-quality Educational Psychology Service. The Assistant Educational Psychologist will work under the supervision of Educational Psychologists and support core services such as assessment and intervention for children who may have Special Educational Needs and identified strategic projects.
They will assist an Educational Psychologist on individual casework, deliver training, mentoring, coaching, complete research tasks, and support delivery of specific interventions for which they have been trained. To gain experience, skills, knowledge and understanding of the role and professional practice of educational psychologists, in preparation for formal postgraduate professional training in Educational Psychology.
Responsibilities- Support the work of an Educational Psychologist under the supervision of an experienced Educational Psychologist who has completed formal training in supervision.
- Support the deployment of resources under supervision.
- Assist in design and implementation of Service development projects.
- Be responsible and accountable for casework under supervision and carry out duties within a Trust team ensuring a high-quality service.
- Assist in developing assessment protocols and intervention design; deliver training programmes under supervision.
- Undertake educational psychological assessments, using tests, questionnaires, reports, observations, and interviews as directed.
- Assist in preparing psychological reports under supervision.
- Assist in formulation and delivery of psychologically informed therapeutic interventions and promote well-being and educational standards.
- Meet and advise parents and professionals under guidance, and communicate assessment results to teachers and relevant parties.
- Liaise with specialists on specific cases, research projects, and intervention programmes under supervision.
- Maintain accurate records and provide written reports as required.
- Assist monitoring and evaluation of Stage 2 and 3 recommendations, strategies, and interventions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and individual pupil statutory and Stage 2 reviews.
- Assist in training and professional development for school staff, parents, and carers.
- Assist design and implementation of service development projects, including research activities.
- Develop competencies for the service through supervision and professional development opportunities.
- Assist the Service and staff with other duties as required.
- Work within professional Codes of Conduct of the Association of Educational Psychologists and the British Psychological Society, providing a professional standard of assessment and intervention in schools.
- Contribute to active research and the development of new responses to changing needs.
- Contribute to knowledge of schools in psychology, child development, and SEN, considering new frameworks.
- Assist the Regional Administration Manager as part of the Outcome Based Accountability programme.
- All duties are subject to supervision by appropriately qualified educational psychologists.

Person SpecificationQualifications:
- Hold an honours degree in psychology (2:2 or above) or equivalent that satisfies the British Psychological Society requirements.
- Have two years demonstrable experience of improving outcomes for children with SEN in education or health settings.
- Demonstrate use of psychological theory, research and activities to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEN.
- Show evidence of data management and ICT software use.
