Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the director will provide vision, leadership, and overall management to the Learning Resources unit and the district’s online learning initiatives. The Learning Resources unit comprises academic and support services, including library, distance education, testing, tutoring, and instructional design. The primary goal of Learning Resources is to promote increased student success by applying technology, training, and services that strengthen teaching and learning throughout the college.

Proficiency in managing educational technology, developing and implementing innovative programs, and working collaboratively within a governance structure are essential. Strong budgeting and planning skills and experience in distance education (DE) and Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives complete the qualifications of an exceptional candidate dedicated to advancing student success through accessible and equitable learning resources.
- Provide strategic, collaborative leadership and advocacy for Library, Distance Education, Tutoring Center, and other assigned programs, including initiatives such as California Virtual Classroom Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI), Open Educational Resources (OER), Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC), Low Textbook Cost (LTC), ensuring that program goals, needs, and operations inform departmental planning and decision‑making.
- Demonstrate effectiveness in serving students from first‑generation and/or historically underrepresented groups as they pursue their academic goals.
- Assist Gavilan College in efforts to increase student success through the development and implementation of equity‑minded best practices and programs.
- Provide leadership for program vitality and development and work directly with faculty to plan for curriculum and program additions, modifications, and deletion.
- Prioritize Division financial needs, including new hires, program funding, technology and instructional equipment, and communicate those priorities clearly to the departments involved.
- Set priorities for resource needs, provide program analysis and multi‑year instructional plans and participate in strategic and long‑range instructional planning for the district.
- Stay abreast of national trends and innovations in library, distance education, and learning resources, including local, state, and federal programs, laws, codes, regulations, and pending legislation related to assigned departments, programs, and activities, and help programs understand and respond to these requirements.
- In consultation with faculty chairs, design the schedule of classes each semester to best meet student needs, and provide for staffing of Division courses; administer and evaluate courses and faculty as required by the collective bargaining agreement.
