Public Programme Coordinator - Fixed Term until October 2027

Do you enjoy bringing events and activities to life, staying organised and working with a wide range of people to create inspiring visitor experiences?

About us

The National Science and Media Museum explores the science and culture of image and sound technologies and their impact on our lives. Through exhibitions, events, festivals, community partnerships and learning activities, we engage audiences with the stories, ideas and innovations that shape the modern world.

Our Public Programme Team plays a vital role in delivering experiences that spark curiosity and help people see science, technology and creativity in new ways. We use a science capital-informed approach to create programmes that resonate with a broad range of audiences and help more people feel that STEM is for them.

To support our exciting programme of exhibitions, events and activities, we are seeking a Public Programme Coordinator to join us on a fixed-term contract until October 2027, working 35 hours per week. This role is based at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, with hybrid working available.

About the role

As Public Programme Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting the planning, organisation and delivery of exhibitions, events and activities for a wide range of audiences. You'll work across everything from administration and event planning through to practical delivery, helping to ensure programmes run smoothly, safely and successfully.

You will be a key point of contact for schools, contractors, freelancers and colleagues across the museum, helping to coordinate activity and keep projects on track. The role also includes supporting event set-up, maintaining records and paperwork, coordinating bookings and helping to deliver activities directly with visitors.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience across multiple areas of museum programming, including event production, audience engagement, exhibition support, contractor management and partnership working. You'll also have opportunities to lead smaller‑scale activities and contribute to some of the museum's flagship events and festivals.

About you

You will have experience of supporting, planning or coordinating events, activities, programmes or projects, ideally within educational, cultural, community or visitor-facing environments. You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and confident working with a range of stakeholders.

You will enjoy working collaboratively and be willing to get involved in all aspects of delivery, from administration and planning through to hands‑on support during events and activities. Strong communication skills, good attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving will help you succeed in this role.

We're particularly interested in hearing from people who are passionate about creating inclusive experiences, who value working with diverse audiences and who are excited by the opportunity to develop their skills in public programming, events and audience engagement.
