Instructor of Outdoor Education at Pentrellyncymer Centre, North Wales Outdoor Education Service
Pentrellyncymer Outdoor Education Centre is one of two residential Centres which make up the North Wales Outdoor Education Service for the counties of Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham. The Service operate two 50-bed residential centres in North Wales at Nant Bwlch Yr Haearn (Gwydir Forest) and Pentrellyncymer (near Llyn Brenig). In 2026 we celebrate our 60 th year running high quality outdoor learning experiences for schools & groups from across North Wales.
Pentrellyncymer Centre is situated in the heart of the Hiraethog moors close to Llyn Brenig and the Alwen Reservoir. The Centre delivers residential outdoor education courses for primary aged students from year 2 upwards.
We are now looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic outdoor practitioner to work at the centre starting from October 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established staff team and have a positive impact on the future of the centres and the service . The successful candidate will have a good understanding of, and commitment to, the role of Outdoor Education within lifelong learning .
To enable safe delivery of courses across both Centres instructional staff are required to deliver the full range of activities. You will therefore need to hold the minimum following qualifications :
- ML Summer
- RCI
- BC Paddlesport Leader or equivalent
- First Aid Qualification
- Plus the ability to drive a minibus and trailer (D1+E)
In addition to the above, the ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh would be both highly desirable & advantageous .
The post is permanent, subject to a successful probationary period.
Whilst this is a part-time contract (0.7 FTE) there may be an opportunity for staff to work beyond this contract to bring this closer to a full-time position. There is a generous holiday entitlement. Full time is 215 days per year, with most of the work being in term time, but a requirement to work up to 6 weeks outside of term time when there are bookings.
Due to the nature of the post the successful candidate will be subject to a disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service
