Salary:
Senior Lecturer Grade H: 58,225 to 67,468

Reader Grade IA: 69,488 to 73,090

Professor Grade IB:

Band 1: 74,921 to 82,282

Band 2: 84,174 to 111,879

The role  Applications are invited at Senior Lecturer, Reader, or Professor level in AI & Quantum. The role will be based in the appropriate school within SAgE faculty, depending on the background and alignment of the candidate: either the School of Computing, or the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics (MSP), with a flexible start date to be agreed. You will be expected to carry out excellent research and teaching in an area of AI & Quantum which complements and strengthens existing activities within the Faculty.

Your research will address the interface between AI (including research into and/or the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning or data science) and Quantum (including theoretical or experimental research into quantum technologies or underpinning experimental techniques or theoretical foundations). You will contribute to the research profile of the assigned school by publishing in internationally recognised journals and conferences, demonstrating research impact, and securing external research funding.

Additionally, you will be a key contributor to the AI2030 faculty project to broaden our institutional offering in Artificial Intelligence, alongside the related Data Science 2030 project. This will comprise a joined up educational offering at UG and PGT level and will be sector-leading in providing forward-facing AI skills embedded in academic units across all parts of the university. AI2030 will act as a solid platform to build tangible cross-institutional research and business engagement opportunities.

The role holder will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities which includes significant investment in the Great Northeast Cleanroom and the recently commissioned supercomputer Comet. AI2030 will be supported by further strategic investment, and the role holder will be a critical contributor to the success of the project. Provide academic leadership in AI & Quantum, shaping research direction and contributing to the strategic development of the appropriate school (either MSP or Computing) Lead and contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives across AI & Quantum and related fields. Publish refereed articles in venues of international standing appropriate to AI & Quantum Collaborate with colleagues in the home section, and beyond into other disciplines within the university, on AI & Quantum Seek out external funding opportunities and develop grant-funded research projects Attract, supervise, and mentor doctoral researchers and postdoctoral associates across a broad range of AI disciplines Build and maintain strategic links with industry, government and external stakeholders in applied, methodological, or theoretical aspects of AI & Quantum technologies Lead the design and delivery of research-inspired teaching Deliver high-quality teaching, assessment, and student support at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the area of AI and beyond, in accordance with the requirements of the home School Contribute to programme development, accreditation, and academic leadership in education across a broad range of AI disciplines, as well as specifically within AI & Quantum Fully engage with Newcastle's Leading Edge Curriculum redevelopment, ensuring that our students’ learning is enriched through engagement with research, industry, practice and society   Carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Head of School and the School Executive Board
