The RoleThere aren’t many electrical engineering roles where you get to work across Wind, Solar and Battery Energy Storage, at voltages up to 400kV, and see projects through commissioning, energisation and into operation.
As SSE Renewables continues to grow its portfolio across Great Britain and Ireland, we’re looking for an experienced 400kV Project Senior Authorised Person to join our Operational Commissioning team.
You’ll be right at the point where projects become operational assets, playing a key role in the safe commissioning, energisation and handover of some of our most significant renewable energy infrastructure.
400kV SAP authorisation is preferred, but it isn't essential. If you currently hold SAP authorisation at a lower voltage and can demonstrate strong operational and project commissioning experience, we’d still like to hear from you. For the right candidate, we’ll support your training and development towards SSER 400kV authorisation through the appropriate experience, training and assessment.
You Will- Perform Senior Authorised Person duties, progressing up to and including 400kV where required, ensuring Safety from the System during commissioning, energisation, testing and operational activities.
- Lead and coordinate switching operations, outage planning, safety documentation, work-party control and commissioning interfaces between project teams, contractors, OEMs and network operators.
- Support the commissioning and operational readiness of Wind, Solar, BESS and grid connection assets through technical advice, testing, defect resolution and compliance activities.
- Provide technical leadership across high-voltage systems, including protection schemes, plant modifications, management of change activities and asset integrity improvements.
- Manage specialist contractors and technical work packages, supporting tender evaluations, contractor governance and project delivery in a fast-paced commissioning environment.
- A degree, HND or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering, together with substantial experience in high-voltage operational and project commissioning environments.
- Senior Authorised Person authorisation under a recognised high-voltage safety rules framework. 400kV authorisation is preferred, however candidates authorised at lower voltages will also be considered where they can demonstrate relevant operational and project commissioning experience and the capability to progress to SSER 400kV authorisation.
- Strong technical knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems including substations, protection systems, transformers, switch gear, control systems and generation assets.
- Practical experience commissioning HV and LV equipment, conducting fault-finding and supporting switching and energisation activities on complex electrical infrastructure projects.
- The ability to build strong relationships and influence a wide range of stakeholders including project teams, operations, engineering specialists, contractors, OEMs and network operators.
SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.
We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms,…
