Role Description

Ionic Technologies is seeking a Process Chemist to support operations at our demonstration production plant in Belfast. The role involves hands‑on operation of the demo plant with some extend day shift hours expected. It will further include chemical analysis, process optimization, data interpretation, record keeping and report writing. You will contribute to production planning, liaise with colleagues and external partners, and drive improvements in safety, quality, and efficiency.

Candidates should hold a degree in chemistry, metallurgy, or process engineering, with strong laboratory and problem‑solving skills. This position suits a self‑starter with excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a structured, team‑oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain the demonstration production plant on a routine basis (batch reactors, filters, mixer‑settler separators, ovens and furnaces)
  • Conduct chemical analyses and physical property testing of materials and products
  • Contribute to production planning
  • Assess existing processes and drive improvements in safety, quality, and operational efficiency
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory and plant equipment
  • Optimize process conditions to enhance performance and scalability
  • Document and communicate research findings and analytical results clearly and effectively
  • Role liaises with other chemists, engineers, and line manager. Liaises with external persons relating to equipment purchasing, analysis contractors etc.
  • Degree or HND in chemistry, applied science, materials science, metallurgy or chemical engineering
  • Well‑developed, data interpretation and problem‑solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Work independently but able to effectively contribute to the functioning of a cohesive team
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, especially Excel
  • Flexibility to work morning and evening shifts (no night shifts required)
  • Well‑developed laboratory skills
  • Experience in analytical techniques specific to metals (ICP‑OES, XRF)
  • Exposure to the chemical or minerals sectors, with previous experience in hydrometallurgy highly desirable
