AECOM's Surface Transportation Team in Ireland consists of a 150‑strong professional network operating across Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast, thriving on a robust pipeline of major Greenways, Active Travel and Public Transport programmes.
We are seeking a driven Senior/Principal Civil (or Infrastructure) Engineer to join our 50‑strong Highways team in Belfast. Candidates with strong industry experience and an ambition to progress to lead our national infrastructure projects are encouraged to apply. We will support you to become a certified Project Manager, providing technical, commercial and developmental experience.

- Deliver and coordinate design packages on complex infrastructure programmes.
- Lead technical design teams across a range of projects from concept to construction, including major highways (DMRB UK & Ireland standards), bus infrastructure (LTN 1/24 NTA standards), and greenway/active travel projects (Cycling by Design/TII DMRB).
- Produce high‑quality deliverables and services that meet client expectations within time and budget constraints.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, challenging inputs from other disciplines (e.g. drainage, environmental).
- Engage directly with clients, local authorities and stakeholders, guiding them through technical challenges and statutory approval processes (Northern Ireland Roads Order, Republic of Ireland Planning Permission, Environmental Impact Assessment).
- Mentor junior engineers and apprentices, contributing to AECOM's culture of growth and continuous learning.

- Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status, or strong candidates progressing towards chartership.
- Significant postgraduate experience in civil engineering, highways, public transport and greenway/active travel.
- Solid understanding and experience of UK and Ireland design standards (DMRB, DMURS, LTN 1/20, LTN 1/24, NTA Cycle Design Manual).
- Experience preparing contract documentation for major transport projects (NEC, Public Works Contract) and specifications to MCHW/MCRW.
