SET Architect (Software Engineer in Test Architect) About the Opportunity

We're partnering with a highly regarded global technology organisation with a growing Belfast engineering centre. They're now seeking a SET Architect to define and lead the strategic direction of their test architecture and automation frameworks.

This is a senior technical leadership role - not a traditional test position. You'll shape scalable automation frameworks, embed testability into system design, and influence engineering quality at an architectural level.

As SET Architect, you will align Test Infrastructure and Architecture with the organisation's engineering strategy. You will take ownership of strategic test frameworks and work closely with Development Architects, Product Architects, Engineering and Release teams to ensure quality is embedded throughout the SDLC.

Operating within a Continuous Delivery environment, you'll drive standards, tooling and practices that improve both coverage and delivery velocity.

• Provide technical leadership across test frameworks, automation and methodologies
• Design, build and evolve scalable automated test solutions
• Define and maintain strategic automation architecture standards
• Embed testability into design and development phases of the SDLC
• Collaborate with Architects and Engineering teams to improve quality and coverage
• Develop solutions across:
  • Static and dynamic analysis
  • Unit, component and integration testing
  • Acceptance testing
  • Non-functional testing (performance, scalability, resilience)
• Monitor and analyse test results, define metrics and reporting standards
• Identify tooling and process improvements
• Champion best practice in design patterns, refactoring and OO design

• Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• Deep understanding of testing methodologies and techniques
• Proven experience designing and delivering robust, scalable test frameworks
• Strong knowledge of Design Patterns, OO Design and refactoring principles
• Experience operating within Continuous Delivery environments
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability

• Ability to influence senior engineering stakeholders
• Comfortable setting technical direction and standards
• Strong collaboration skills across cross‑functional teams
• Self‑driven with the ability to work independently

• Competitive salary (£65,000-£75,000)
