The position would suit engineers from a temporary works background, as well as those with strong experience in bridges, marine or major civil infrastructure who are keen to broaden their skillset. Your new role as Bridge Engineer As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of safety-critical engineering solutions across a range of complex construction and infrastructure schemes.
You will work as part of a collaborative design team, supporting projects from concept through to construction. Depending on your level and experience, responsibilities will include:
Designing permanent works for bridge and heavy civils projects. Developing temporary works solutions including formwork, falsework, propping, access and construction sequencing. Producing high-quality design calculations, drawings and technical reports. Applying relevant standards, including BS 5975, with mentoring and technical support provided. Undertaking site visits and surveys to ensure designs are practical and buildable. Providing technical support to construction teams during project delivery.
Managing multiple design packages while maintaining high safety and quality standards. Supporting and mentoring junior engineers What you'll need to succeed To be considered for this role, you should demonstrate: A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Experience in temporary works design or a strong background in bridge engineering or heavy civil infrastructure. Good understanding of engineering drawings, load paths and design principles.
Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with project stakeholders. A proactive, safety-focused approach to engineering design. Chartered status or progress toward ICE or IStruct
